Early preview · MCP service and local CLI

Your tasks. Your computer. One conversation.

Use ChatGPT to work with files, explore a project, and run commands on your own computer. AnyRemote connects the conversation to the place your work lives.

The CLI is published as @panda-ai/anyremote. Your computer connects outward, so no inbound port is opened.

Task example
“Find the notes for my project and put together a short summary.”

A possible workflow

  1. Find the relevant files
  2. Read the source material
  3. Write a summary beside your notes

Illustration only. No files are accessed and no task is running here.

Why it exists

ChatGPT cannot see your computer. AnyRemote closes that gap.

This is not about handing the whole desktop to a model. It is about giving it one concrete task: read a file, change a setting, run a command.

The problem today

ChatGPT only sees what you paste into it; it cannot reach the real files in your project.

Running a command means opening a terminal yourself, copying the output, and pasting it back into the conversation.

Self-hosted remote setups usually need a public entry point or expose the whole machine.

What AnyRemote does

The device opens an outbound WebSocket. No inbound local port is required.

Approve the device in your browser for each explicit CLI start. You can revoke device access from your account.

Files and commands run on the target computer. Tool requests and results pass through the hosted AnyRemote relay and can include file contents and command output.

How it works

Four steps to bring your computer into ChatGPT

Each step is explicit. Approve the device before remote tools can run.

  1. Install and start the CLI

Start the published package with a package manager you already have. There is no global install step.

  2. Approve the computer in your browser

Sign in with email, Google, or GitHub and approve this computer explicitly. Each explicit start asks for a new browser approval.

  3. Connect it in ChatGPT

Once AnyRemote is listed, add it from the ChatGPT Apps directory and complete the authorization.

  4. Use it in a conversation

Name the connected computer when a tool asks for one, so a request does not land on another machine.

Core capabilities

Three things, done properly

AnyRemote is in early preview; the capabilities below are the ones implemented today.

Search, read, and write files

Give ChatGPT the real files in your project instead of an excerpt you pasted.

  • Read by path and search by keyword
  • Write changes to the file you name
  • File operations execute locally; their requested content and results pass through the hosted relay.

Run commands and manage processes

Short commands return their output directly; long tasks are read through a process handle.

  • Run short commands and read their output
  • List and stop the processes the CLI started
  • An interrupted connection does not replay commands that were already dispatched

Start with the work in front of you.

A folder to untangle. A project to understand. A command that needs a closer look.

Make sense of your files

Search, read, and organize files on a connected computer. Bring scattered material into the task you are working on.

“Find this week’s notes and organize them by project.”

Get oriented in a project

Read source files, run checks, and inspect errors with the context of the project already on your machine.

“Read the setup instructions, run the tests, and explain the failures.”

Keep a command in view

Run terminal commands and inspect process output. Follow a task beyond its first line of output.

“Start the build, then check its output for errors.”
Environments and known limits

What works, and what is not verified yet

AnyRemote is in early preview. A platform without real-device evidence is marked “not yet verified”, never “supported”.

  • macOS

CLI start and device approvalVerified on our own machine

End-to-end ChatGPT flowVerified on our own machine

  • Linux

CLI start and device approvalVerified on our own machine

End-to-end ChatGPT flowVerified on our own machine

  • Windows

Before you use the preview

The CLI must stay running. It is not a background service and does not start on boot.

Each explicit start of the remote command asks for a new browser approval.

The end-to-end ChatGPT web flow is verified across macOS, Linux, and Windows. CLI start and device approval are verified on macOS and Linux; Windows remains unverified.

Pricing

Plans and allowances are shown in your account

This page describes what each plan is for. Current prices, device limits, and tool-call allowances are always shown in Billing after you sign in.

AnyRemote is in early preview. Nothing on this page is a quote or a purchase offer.

Free

Create an account and try real file and terminal tasks with the plan’s included allowance.

  • File, terminal, and process tools
  • Connect the computers you work on
  • Review your allowance and usage in the console

Pro

For regular work that needs more connected computers and a larger tool-call allowance.

  • More connected computers
  • A larger monthly tool-call allowance
  • Upgrades and invoices are managed in Billing
Open Billing

You sign in first; then open Billing in your account to see current prices, device limits, usage allowances, and upgrade availability.

Does my computer need to stay on?

Yes. The computer needs an internet connection and the AnyRemote CLI process must stay running. The remote command runs in the foreground; closing it ends that connection.

What can I do with AnyRemote?

Its tools support searching, reading, and writing files, running terminal commands, and managing processes. The actions available in ChatGPT also depend on your account and workspace settings.

How do I connect it to ChatGPT?

Follow the Quick Start for this site. Preview uses a custom MCP app; production uses the ChatGPT Apps directory once the public listing is available. Check the guide for prerequisites and current availability.

How do device and usage limits work?

Your plan sets the number of devices and the tool-call allowance. Check Billing for your current limits and Usage for consumption.

Where do files and commands run?

File operations and commands run on the computer you connect. Tool requests and results pass through the hosted AnyRemote service. Read Remote service privacy below for details.

Bring your next task to the conversation.
